Tell me we’re headed to World War III without telling me we’re headed toward World War III? Here’s how I would do it…
China has stepped up its international presence, while the United States appears to be lagging behind due to the cognitive decline of their leader. The Chinese are taking advantage of this power vacuum to expand their influence, and one of their more concerning actions has been their reported support for Russia in the ongoing Ukraine conflict.
The Washington Post reported,
“China approved ‘provision of lethal aid’ to Russia in its war in Ukraine earlier this year and planned to disguise military equipment as civilian items, according to a U.S. intercept of Russian intelligence revealed in leaked secret documents.
The intercept, apparently obtained through U.S. eavesdropping on Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service (SVR), was included in a top-secret summary, dated Feb. 23, of recent Ukraine- and Russia-related ‘products’ compiled by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence.”
According to leaked documents from the Discord app, China has clandestinely approved the provision of weapons to Russia. Intelligence gathered by the US Office of the Director of National Intelligence indicates that the Central Military Commission of China sanctioned the “incremental provision” of weapons to Russia, but has urged the matter to be kept under wraps. In response, a senior US administration official stated that the US has yet to see any concrete evidence that China has provided lethal assistance to Russia, but they remain vigilant on the matter.
One document extracted from the same collection of Discord files suggested that the Chinese were contemplating possible future moves if the Ukraine crisis escalates. Specifically, if the US or NATO-backed Ukraine launches a significant attack on Russia, the Chinese government may use it as grounds to further justify their provision of lethal aid to the Russian military. While the Chinese government has denied the allegations, they also reminded the international community that the US has been pledging military aid to Ukraine, thus, should not judge others.
Be that as it may, an import-export data aggregator, ImportGenius, has recently revealed various shipments of military equipment and materials from China to Russia. In June 2022, one of China’s largest state-owned defense contractors, China North Industries Group Corporation Limited, reportedly shipped “civilian hunting rifles” (CQ-A rifles) to a Russian company, Tekhkrim, known for its collaborations with the Russian state and military. These rifles resemble the M16, and have been previously used by paramilitary police in China, as well as armed forces across several other countries.
In addition, the leaked documents show that Russia has once again relied on China to provide drone parts, navigation equipment, satellite imagery, vehicle components, body armor and other raw materials needed to support Putin’s destructive war campaign against Ukraine. The supply of weaponry, materials, and equipment by China to Russia has intensified concerns amongst the US, EU and other nations over the Chinese government’s potential role enabling the Russian aggression in Ukraine.
