DeSantis Demands Harsher Punishments

There’s a sense in politics that a steady ship will more easily navigate rough waters. Strong politicians are those who can chart a course and stick to it while likewise adapting to unforeseen storms. Even though he has yet to officially announce his intent to run for president in 2024, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is using such a strategy.

The extremely successful governor continues to amass an impressive list of credentials. The most noteworthy of these is his firm commitment to conservative American values. DeSantis pushed back against unnecessary government invasions into the lives of his Florida residents. He stood for freedom when it wasn’t the popular thing to do. He won.

Ron DeSantis has stood beside parents who were angered by a perverse misuse of the educational system. The popular governor has also resisted the wave of censorship exerted by the radical woke culture. He boldly insisted that “Florida is where woke goes to die.” DeSantis has also proudly stood behind justice.

He signed into law the sentiment of the Florida legislature regarding abortion. Florida’s lawmakers passed a six-week ban on abortions, something the governor signed into law, without hesitation. DeSantis also believes that criminals deserve to be punished, not the victims. He is expected to sign a bill allowing the death penalty with an 8-4 jury vote.

SB 280 will circumvent a unanimous jury vote stipulation, meaning a two-thirds majority, or 8 out of 12 jurors, will be required for the death penalty. The bill will reverse the 2017 Florida law requiring jurors to be unanimous in all capital cases. The governor does not believe one juror should have the power to nullify a death sentence for heinous crimes.

DeSantis believes the new law will prevent a juror from “bringing an agenda to bear and they’re willing to get on that jury and do that.” He used the verdict in the Parkland shooting case as an example. The Sunshine State governor insisted, “In Parkland, it was the only appropriate punishment.” “Now, he is going to be in prison for the rest of his life.”

“It’s going to cost the taxpayers a fortune for 60, 70 years, potentially. And that’s not really justice for the families.” There is also a separate measure that will authorize the death penalty for child rapists. Many believe this to be an appropriate penalty for such societal deviants. This is yet another sign of this man’s moral fiber.

He is a man who will stand by his convictions and support the truth, integrity, and honesty. That may well prove a refreshing alternative for a nation in desperate need of rejuvenation. As the Florida governor continues to address the next job on his list, it becomes increasingly apparent that Ron DeSantis will run for president in 2024. The country can only hope.
