GOP Candidate Suggests Reparations for White People

Most Americans have heard about the latest harebrained liberal idea to pay money to black people because “maybe” one of their ancestors was mistreated. Certainly, today’s America feels that withholding pay for hard work isn’t the right thing to do. Slavery was an issue. It was wrong. But it happened during an era in history where society accepted it, at least to some degree.

There are still some examples of slavery happening around the world today. So, because of a culturally accepted practice, wrong or not, that happened nearly 200 years ago, radical progressives think everyone alive today owes anyone who “might” have been mistreated or abused. We highlight “maybe” and “might” for good reason.

“Maybe” someone can prove they were a direct relative of a former slave, and they “might” have good cause for a claim. Now, figuring out who’s who on this list of “owed” people will probably prove rather arduous, if not impossible. And this problem would only address the logistics of the crazy reparations idea.

Finding out who could justifiably be held accountable could be an even more challenging job. Then there’s the third level of insanity surrounding the idea, and that’s the justification for making someone pay for great-great-great-grandma’s possible transgressions. It doesn’t take long before the senselessness of the whole reparations idea is clear.

But what about discussion concerning another aspect of the battle to end slavery? What about descendants of Civil War soldiers who lost their lives or dedicated their service time, many returning maimed and crippled, to help end slavery? Shouldn’t the ancestors of these patriotic Americans likewise be entitled to some back pay for services rendered?

One Ohio Republican Senate candidate, Bernie Moreno, believes they should. Moreno proudly mentioned the original founders, who battled Great Britain to secure their freedoms. It was from these and their first-generation descendants that the men and women who died to free black Americans came.

During an Ohio campaign event, Moreno said, “That same group of people later, white people, died to free black people. It’s never happened in human history before, but it happened here in America. That’s not taught a lot in schools much, is it?” The U.S. Senate candidate chastised the notion that America is a racist country.

His argument was solid. “They make it sound like America is a racist, broken country. You name a country that did that: that freed slaves, died to do that. You know, they talk about reparations. Where are the reparations for the people in the North who died to save the lives of black people?”

Moreno is one of two current Republican candidates headed to the primary. The eventual GOP winner will attempt to snatch a U.S. Senate seat from the radical left by defeating incumbent Sherrod Brown. J.D. Vance took one of Ohio’s two senate seats in 2022. In a state heavily favoring former President Donald Trump, the Buckeye State may be in for a clean Senate sweep!
