Remember when Americans complained that they didn’t want illegal immigrants coming over here because they would take their jobs? Well, it’s happening. Tyson Foods is reportedly planning to hire thousands of foreign-born workers after giving the boot to our hardworking American citizens.
Tyson Foods, one of the largest food processing companies in the U.S., seems to be on a mission. The company is reportedly hoping to hire over 40,000 “asylum seekers” to fill their food processing jobs. And why, you ask? Well, if you ask Tyson’s human resources leader Garrett Dolan, he’d tell you it’s because these folks are “very, very loyal”. But let’s face it – it all boils down to the almighty dollar.
According to Bloomberg, Tyson’s grand plan involves capitalizing on cheap labor pouring in from Central America, Africa, and the Middle East. Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m all for providing opportunities to those in need, but hey, what about our fellow Americans who just lost their jobs?
Tyson Foods has now attempted to walk back Dolan’s statements, calling the whole thing “misinformation.” In a press release, the company stated they are “strongly opposed to illegal immigration” and that they employ 120,000 team members in the U.S., all of whom are required to be legally authorized to work in the country. Well, that sure sounds nice and patriotic, doesn’t it?
This news comes hot on the heels of Tyson announcing that it was shutting down plants in the United States, including their Perry, Iowa plant that employs more than 1,200 workers. Apparently, closing the plant “optimizes the efficiency of their operations to best serve their customers.” Whose customers, Tyson? The ones who now have to look for new jobs?
Look, I’m not saying Tyson Foods is the bad guy here. They’re a business, and businesses are designed to make money. But when you’re one of the biggest food processors in the country, shouldn’t you have a responsibility to your fellow Americans? Or is that just too much to ask in the pursuit of profit?
So, there you have it folks. Tyson Foods’ latest hiring strategy – a move that has us questioning whether it’s profits over patriotism for this American giant. Just another day in the land of the free and the home of the brave, right?
