Josh Seiter, a former contestant on The Bachelorette, has admitted that his recent announcement of identifying as transgender was a calculated hoax to mock what he describes as the gullibility of left-wing activists on the subject of gender identity. Seiter, who made headlines in May when he declared his new identity, revealed on the BlazeTV podcast Prime Time with Alex Stein that the entire five-month ordeal was a social experiment intended to highlight what he perceives as the absurdities of “woke culture” and gender ideology.
During his interview with Stein, Seiter wore a full face of makeup and donned a scarf in the colors of the transgender flag. He had a staffer dramatically remove his makeup mid-interview, unveiling his admission that the whole thing had been a ploy. “I faked being a faker. I pretended to be a pretender,” he said, adding, “We are all men putting on makeup and dresses and claiming we are women, and I hope that this could help some people understand that just because you put on dresses and makeup as a man doesn’t magically make you a woman.”
Seiter elaborated on his experience, stating that his declaration as transgender was met with what he called “intolerance, bigotry, and gatekeeping” from the very community he sought to critique. He noted that the responses he received only further convinced him that the concepts around gender identity had become, in his view, a nebulous and contradictory mess.
In an interview with The Daily Mail ahead of his public reveal, Seiter stated, “I’ve been running it for four months to see how far people will take postmodern gender ideology and woke culture.” He argued that current medical guidelines have made the definition of being transgender so broad and ambiguous that it’s nearly meaningless. “Trans individuals don’t have to have gender dysphoria, don’t have to transition, don’t have to take hormones, get surgery, or alter their appearance in any way to be trans,” he explained.
Seiter also criticized what he called the “verbal legerdemain and semantical nonsense” that he claims is prevalent in transgender medical guidelines. He argued that these guidelines have created a situation where the definition of who is transgender is so vague that it lacks any substantive meaning.
The former reality TV star’s stunt has drawn a range of reactions, from supporters who share his skepticism to critics who view his actions as offensive and harmful to the transgender community. Regardless of where one stands, Seiter’s hoax has undeniably sparked a renewed debate on the complexities and controversies surrounding gender identity in modern culture.
