What’s left of girls’ sports in California took another hit Friday when chaos broke out at the state high school track and field championships — all thanks to the California Interscholastic Federation’s ongoing fantasy that boys can be girls just because they say so.
The spark? A biological male athlete competing as a female, AB Hernandez, once again crushed his competition in the girls’ division, sailing through prelims in the triple jump, long jump, and high jump — events where actual female athletes, like 16-year-old Reese Hogan of Crean Lutheran High School, have trained their whole lives only to watch a boy take their spot on the podium.
The situation turned ugly off the track too. Protesters from both women’s rights groups and LGBTQ activists clashed outside the event in Clovis, and unsurprisingly, it was a left-wing activist who ended up in handcuffs. According to Fox News, the Clovis Police Department confirmed that an LGBTQ activist was arrested after smashing a car window with a flagpole and pepper-spraying another individual. The suspect faces charges of assault with a weapon and obstructing a police officer.
“We don’t have room for violence or property damage,” said Sergeant Chris Hutchison. But apparently, there is room to destroy women’s sports under the guise of inclusion.
As Hernandez competed, a plane circled overhead carrying a banner that read: “CIF: NO BOYS IN GIRLS’ SPORTS.” The banner was organized by women’s advocacy groups ICONS (Independent Council on Women’s Sports) and Women Are Real (WAR). These groups have had enough of the state’s policy allowing boys to compete in girls’ athletics.
“California is beginning to reap the consequences of defying federal law and brazenly harming girls,” said Kim Jones, co-founder of ICONS. “Since when do we tell a single boy he is more important than every girl in the competition?”
Even with President Trump’s executive order banning men from competing in women’s sports, California Democrats — led by Governor Gavin Newsom — continue to defy it, propping up this warped ideology at the expense of real female athletes.
In a fair competition, Reese Hogan would’ve walked away with gold. Instead, she lost to a boy by four feet. That’s not inclusion — it’s institutionalized cheating.
This is what happens when political correctness tramples common sense. It’s time to restore integrity to girls’ sports — and make California follow the law.
