Trump Floats Major Move That Will Cripple Democrats in Future Elections

Standing beside Florida Governor Ron DeSantis on Tuesday, President Trump unveiled his boldest move yet to reshape America’s political future — one he claims could cripple Democrats’ ability to win elections for years to come.

The event, held outside Florida’s latest immigration detention center dubbed “Alligator Alcatraz,” wasn’t just about border security. Trump made clear his true focus: ordering a new, “fair” U.S. Census that excludes illegal immigrants from population counts used to determine congressional seats.

“We want to bring our elections back,” Trump declared. “They count everyone, even those who shouldn’t be here, and it’s robbing states like Florida and Texas of their rightful representation.”

Governor DeSantis echoed Trump’s concerns, arguing that the 2020 census, carried out under what Trump calls the “deep state,” unfairly inflated blue states’ House seats.

“California would lose five seats if they counted fairly,” DeSantis said. “Florida should’ve gained more than one. Texas too. Redo the Census for ’26 and we’ll redraw the lines.”

The move builds upon an executive order Trump signed on his first day back in office, removing non-citizens from census tallies — a long-standing point of contention between Republicans and Democrats. Democrats rely on large immigrant populations in blue strongholds like California to secure outsized influence in the U.S. House of Representatives.

California, home to more than 1.8 million illegal immigrants, currently holds 52 House seats — over 10% of Congress. A citizen-only census would strip blue states of political power, shifting it to Republican-leaning regions.

Though the Constitution grants Congress control over the census, the executive branch carries it out, giving Trump significant influence. Legal experts predict a wave of lawsuits if Trump orders a new count, with the issue likely landing before the U.S. Supreme Court.

Notably, the Court’s recent ruling stripping lower courts of the ability to impose nationwide injunctions removes a critical tool Democrats could use to block Trump’s plan.

If Trump acts swiftly, a revised census could be completed before the 2026 midterms, reshaping the House map and, potentially, cementing a Republican advantage for years to come.

Democrats call the proposal unconstitutional and dangerous. But for Trump and DeSantis, it’s a high-stakes strategy to restore fairness — and dominance — to America’s elections.
