Never Mess with a U.S. Marine A group of teenage would-be carjackers in Maryland learned a painful lesson this week: picking the wrong target can turn a crime spree into a disaster.
A viral video making the rounds online shows Marine Corps veteran Jheyco Borda fighting back after four hooded teens allegedly attempted to rob him at gunpoint while he was working on his truck in Oxon Hill, Maryland, just outside Washington, D.C.
According to reports, the incident occurred around 4:45 p.m. in broad daylight. Surveillance footage shows Borda working near the bed of his truck when four suspects approached him. The teens reportedly demanded his keys and phone. Then the situation escalated dramatically when one of the suspects pulled out a handgun and pointed it directly at Borda’s head.
For most people, that would be a terrifying moment. For Borda, years of Marine training and discipline appeared to take over.
The video shows Borda waiting for an opening before lunging at the armed suspect. He grabbed the teen and began wrestling for control of the weapon. What the suspects likely expected to be an easy robbery suddenly turned into a fight they were not prepared for.
As the struggle unfolded, Borda’s brother rushed from the house to help. Moments later, a gunshot rang out during the confrontation. Fortunately, nobody was struck by the bullet, although Borda later said the shot hit his truck.
The suspects quickly found themselves facing much more resistance than they anticipated. Borda’s father also joined the effort, and together the family managed to detain two of the suspects until police arrived on the scene.
According to reports, one suspect suffered minor injuries during the altercation and was taken into custody after receiving treatment. Borda himself sustained a minor cut during the struggle but was treated at the scene.
The incident quickly exploded across social media, with many users praising Borda’s courage and composure under extreme pressure. Others pointed to the event as another example of the growing brazenness of criminals who seem increasingly willing to commit violent crimes in the middle of the day.
Borda later shared the surveillance footage and issued a warning to others: “Be careful and be aware of your surroundings.”
That advice is difficult to argue with.
What stands out most about this incident is how quickly circumstances changed once the suspects encountered someone unwilling to surrender without a fight. Armed criminals often rely on fear, surprise, and compliance from their victims. In this case, those assumptions proved badly mistaken.
The video serves as a reminder that courage, preparation, and quick thinking can make all the difference in a dangerous situation. It also serves as a warning to criminals everywhere: before you decide to threaten someone at gunpoint, you might want to make sure that person is not a U.S. Marine.
