Abbott Vows to Fight Back Against Illegal Immigration Despite SCOTUS Ruling

If there’s one thing you can count on in this world, it’s Texas Governor Greg Abbott standing his ground. You remember the Supreme Court ruling about Border Patrol agents having the authority to cut razor-wire fencing set up in the Eagle Pass area? Well, Abbott’s response was as fierce as a Texas summer: “This is not over.”

He didn’t stop there, folks. He went on to declare that Texas’ razor wire is an “effective deterrent to the illegal crossings Biden encourages.” And just in case anyone thought he might be backing down, he added, “I will continue to defend Texas’ constitutional authority to secure the border and prevent the Biden Admin from destroying our property.” Now that’s what I call a Texan’s stubbornness put to good use.

You see, this all started when Texas law enforcement and National Guard personnel seized control of Shelby Park in Eagle Pass. Apparently, the park had become a favorite spot for large crossings of illegal aliens. As part of the “Operation Lonestar” effort, Abbott signed a new law allowing Texas officials to arrest illegal aliens before deporting them through local courts. Talk about giving the Biden Administration’s “catch and release” policy a big old Texas-sized boot.

But the drama didn’t end there. With the surge of illegal aliens crossing the southern border reaching record numbers in both 2022 and 2023, Texas National Guard personnel set up roughly 30 miles of concertina wire. This sharp-bladed barbed wire was in response to the historic influx of border crossers. But Border Patrol personnel have been seen cutting wire in the Eagle Pass area, arguing that illegal aliens in the area have already entered U.S. territory and are thus eligible for asylum claims.

The Biden Administration even accused Texas of being complicit in the recent drowning of three people in the Rio Grande River. Texas officials disputed this claim, citing Mexican government reports that informed the Biden Administration of the drownings well in advance.

Despite the controversy, Abbott’s decision to defy the Supreme Court’s ruling has been met with praise from Republican lawmakers who argue that the Biden Administration is failing to uphold national sovereignty. U.S. Rep. Clay Higgins (R-LA) described the open border as a “civil war scenario.”
