Senator John Frankenstein Fetterman has been absent for a while. In fact, he’s missed 80% of his time in the Senate. But according to sources, he is expected to return to work the week of April 17th, putting to rest concerns raised by his mental health woes that began in February. The freshman Keystone State senator checked himself into Walter Reed National Military Medical Center for treatment of anxiety and depression, conditions he had dealt with in the past but had only been exacerbated due to recent events. This included a near-fatal stroke, a senate campaign, and then his first days in office.
Sources close to him have indicated that he appears to have recovered well, with CNN reporting that a source close said he was likely “as good or better than his best days post-stroke” and that “He’s doing extremely well.” That’s not really saying much though because he looked terrible before going to the hospital. Honestly, he looked like a walking vegetable.
Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) who visited him recently as well agreed, stating that “it was just remarkable how good he looked, how good he sounded,” and gave the impression that Fetterman was even healthier than before the stroke.
Besides Senator Fetterman, it’s expected that another colleague who has been away from the Senate since February due to health concerns will be returning soon – Senator Dianne Feinstein (D-CA). She had announced her diagnosis of shingles earlier this year. Additionally, Senator Tim Kaine (D-VA) noted that Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY), who suffered a fall recently and sustained a rib fracture and concussion will also be expected back soon. With all of these senators returning at around the same time frame in what looks like excellent health condition set to hit the floor running again soon, it marks an exciting moment for Congress.
