Republicans on the House Oversight Committee have embarked on a mission to investigate the financial records of the Biden family. The committee’s ranking member, Rep. James Comer (R-KY), has recently revealed that records dating back to Joe Biden’s tenure as vice president have shown $1 million in indirect payments from a Chinese energy company to Hunter Biden, James Biden, Hallie Biden, and an unknown “Biden,” raising concerns about corruption and shady business deals.
However, the president has denied these allegations, labelling them as “false.” Meanwhile, Hunter Biden’s spokesperson dismissed the accusations as a “baseless right-wing conspiracy theory,” insisting that the payments were legitimate joint venture funds that were later shared with James Biden and Hallie Biden for joint expenses.
In addition to the ongoing scrutiny surrounding Hunter Biden’s ties to foreign entities and his tax affairs, federal prosecutors are going through the younger Biden’s foreign business dealings in countries such as Ukraine and China. Although Hunter has professed his innocence, Republican lawmakers remain vigilant and have alerted the Treasury Department to look into Biden’s financial records.
While the committee’s Democrats stayed away, their Republican counterparts descended upon the Treasury Department to comb through Selective Financial Records or SARs, shedding light on various discrepancies, including the number of Biden family members implicated and the astronomical sums of money involved. Rep. Nancy Mace (R-SC) tweeted that the revelations were “wild,” while Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) described the Bidens’ financial web as a “vast criminal enterprise” composed of shell companies and wire transfers from several foreign countries.
Chairman James Comer has promised to reveal more details, saying the Oversight Committee will continue to pursue bank records to uncover the truth about the Bidens’ financial transactions and if there is a national security issue. In the meantime, the Republicans have urged whistleblowers to come forward to expose any wrongdoing, assuring them of protection.
“Thousands of pages of financial records related to the Biden family, their companies, and associates’ business schemes were made available to members of the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability, which confirm the importance of this investigation,” Comer said in a statement.
“The Biden family enterprise is centered on Joe Biden’s political career and connections, and it has generated an exorbitant amount of money for the Biden family,” he added. “We’ve identified six additional members of Joe Biden’s family who may have benefited from the Biden family’s businesses that we are investigating, bringing the total number of those involved or benefiting to nine.”
“The Oversight Committee will continue to pursue additional bank records to follow the Bidens’ tangled web of financial transactions to determine if the Biden family has been targeted by foreign actors and if there is a national security threat,” Comer said in his statement Monday. “We will soon provide the public with more information about what we’ve uncovered to date. The American people need transparency and accountability, and the Oversight Committee will deliver much needed answers.”
