CDC Warns of Deadly Bacteria with up to 50% Death Rate in US Gulf Coast

It seems like everything in our world is constantly trying to kill us. There are people, animals, viruses, and diseases that seem like they’re just lurking and waiting for us to make a wrong move. Just as we’ve finally gotten away from 99% of the pandemic crap, the CDC warns of a new disease that we should be afraid of.

Burkholderia pseudomallei is a deadly bacteria that has been causing alarm among health officials. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have issued a warning about the bacteria, which is found in contaminated soil and water and can cause melioidosis, a potentially fatal disease.

The CDC estimates that up to 50 percent of people infected with Burkholderia pseudomallei die from the infection. The bacteria is endemic in tropical and subtropical regions, particularly Southeast Asia, Madagascar, and Central America. It can also be found in Australia, India, and parts of Africa.

The symptoms of melioidosis vary depending on the severity of the infection but may include fever, chills, chest pain, cough, shortness of breath, joint pain or swelling, skin lesions or rashes, confusion or disorientation. In severe cases it can lead to sepsis and organ failure.

People who are at an increased risk for contracting melioidosis include those with weakened immune systems due to HIV/AIDS or other conditions such as diabetes; those who work outdoors in areas where the bacteria is present; people who use recreational drugs such as heroin; and those living in areas where there is flooding or heavy rains which can increase the presence of contaminated soil and water.

If you think you may have been exposed to Burkholderia pseudomallei it’s important to seek medical attention immediately as early diagnosis is key to successful treatment. Treatment typically involves antibiotics such as ceftazidime or meropenem for 10-21 days depending on the severity of the infection.

Burkholderia pseudomallei is a serious threat that should not be taken lightly as it can lead to severe illness and even death if left untreated. It’s important to be aware of its presence in certain parts of the world so that appropriate precautions can be taken when travelling or working outdoors in these areas.

But here are my thoughts, and I admit that I haven’t done the research, but I wonder if that 50% that die from the bacteria are in places across the globe where they don’t have proper treatment methods. Take a look at where you typically find the bacteria:
