Could MTG Be Gearing Up for a Presidential Bid? Her Exit from Congress Raises Big Questions

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene is having a loud weekend, and not just because she decided to nuke her own congressional career. Reports are leaking that she is eyeing a 2028 presidential run, and she is absolutely furious about it. The timing is interesting. She had just announced her resignation from Congress, effective January 5, 2026, through an eleven minute video and a four page resignation letter. Then suddenly stories pop up claiming she is prepping for the White House. Someone in Washington clearly enjoys stirring the pot.

MTG’s exit from the House followed weeks of her hammering away at the Epstein client files, something that earned her a public smackdown from President Trump. That friction set the stage for her dramatic departure, which several reporters quick pointed out arrives right as she becomes eligible for her federal pension. Naturally, Washington insiders cannot help but wonder if the timing and the ambition story are related.

Time Magazine escalated things by reporting that she has privately told allies she is considering running for president in 2028. They cited people who claim to have spoken with her directly, and others who are familiar with her thinking. NOTUS previously said she was telling people the same thing. If true, that would put her on a collision course with Vice President JD Vance, who already holds a strong position heading into the next cycle. But MTG says the whole thing is fiction.

On Sunday morning she fired back with a long eruption on X. She accused Time of lying, saying they relied on nameless sources. She said, “I’m not running for President and never said I wanted to and have only laughed about it when anyone would mention it.” Then she dove into a fiery broadside at what she calls the Political Industrial Complex. According to her, it is a system that would never allow someone like her, or like the average voter, to fix anything. She insisted she has no interest in begging for donations or destroying her health just to enter a system that blocks reform.

Her post listed every grievance she believes Washington created, from soaring debt to Social Security’s looming shortfall to the disasters of Obamacare to high taxes to border failures to foreign policy misadventures. She asked whether anyone is happy with any of it, and warned Americans not to get distracted by shiny objects while the real damage continues.

Whether she truly has zero interest in running or simply wants the rumors to cool off, one thing is obvious. Her fight with the establishment is not ending anytime soon.
