Ex-Congressman Launches Bid for Critical Senate Seat in Blue State

Here we go again — Michigan is back in the spotlight, and this time, it’s not because of a 45-minute wait at a Tim Hortons drive-thru or another cringey auto bailout photo op. Nope, it’s because Mike Rogers, the former congressman and real-deal patriot, just stepped back into the political ring, officially launching his campaign for the U.S. Senate seat that Democrat Gary Peters is (thankfully) vacating in 2026. That’s right — a grown-up is trying to return to Washington.

And if Rogers sounds like a blast from the past, that’s because he is — but in the best possible way. He’s not some TikTok influencer turned activist or a career politician who’s never punched a time clock. This guy worked factory floors, served in the Army, fought drug traffickers as an FBI agent, chaired the House Intelligence Committee, and now wants to bring Michigan back from the progressive abyss.

His launch video was like a breath of fresh, blue-collar Michigan air. “Show up and do the hard work,” Rogers said, echoing the values of the working-class, military-rooted family he grew up in. His dad was a shop teacher. His mom ran the Brighton Chamber of Commerce. And unlike half the current Senate, Rogers doesn’t have a degree in political grifting. He’s got calluses from work and a backbone from service.

Rogers ran in 2024 and barely lost to Elissa Slotkin — by less than 20,000 votes. Translation: Michigan was this close to having someone in the Senate who doesn’t think the IRS needs more agents or that electric cars should cost $70,000. But now, with President Trump back in the White House (and the left still hyperventilating about it), Rogers is linking arms with the America First agenda — unapologetically.

“I’ll stand with President Trump,” Rogers promised, “and we will deliver on the mandate given to him by the American people.” Imagine that — a Republican candidate who doesn’t run from Trump, doesn’t mumble about “bipartisanship,” and actually knows what a manufacturing job looks like.

Democrats are already scrambling. State Senator Mallory McMorrow has jumped in, and Rep. Haley Stevens is sniffing around the idea. But let’s be honest — if Michigan wants someone who knows how to protect American families from foreign cyber threats, fix the economy, and defend Social Security without turning the country into a socialist experiment, Rogers is the guy.

The left will try to paint him as “too conservative,” “too pro-Trump,” or “too experienced.” Yeah, heaven forbid we get a senator who’s qualified and principled.

Game on, Michigan. Let’s take our state — and our Senate — back.
