Federal authorities have arrested a 32-year-old Pennsylvania man after he allegedly made repeated online threats to assassinate President Trump and other U.S. officials, including federal law enforcement agents.
The suspect, identified as Shawn Monper of Butler, Pennsylvania, was taken into custody by the FBI and Butler Township Police after investigators linked a series of disturbing and violent messages posted under the YouTube handle “Mr Satan.” According to the federal criminal complaint, Monper issued explicit threats over several months, targeting President Trump, ICE agents, and other U.S. government personnel.
The case carries an extra layer of urgency, given that Butler, PA, is the same town where President Trump narrowly survived an assassination attempt during a rally in 2024. With that tragic history fresh in the minds of local and federal law enforcement, authorities wasted no time in acting on the threat.
Attorney General Pam Bondi issued a strong statement applauding the arrest. “I want to applaud the outstanding and courageous investigative work of the FBI and the Butler Township Police Department,” Bondi said. “This man posed a real threat to President Trump’s life and the lives of other innocent Americans. Let this be a warning — threats of political violence will not be tolerated.”
Bondi vowed that the Department of Justice will pursue the case to the fullest extent of the law, promising to seek the “maximum appropriate punishment.”
According to Acting U.S. Attorney Troy Rivetti, the FBI began its investigation after receiving an emergency disclosure from YouTube’s parent company on April 8. By then, Monper had posted dozens of violent and extremist messages online. He claimed to have purchased multiple firearms, body armor, and large quantities of ammunition since Trump returned to office.
Among the most chilling posts was a February 17 message stating: “Nah, we just need to start k—– people, Trump, Elon, all the heads of agencies Trump appointed… American Revolution 2.0.”
Monper was arrested on April 9 and is currently being held in federal custody. A preliminary and detention hearing is scheduled for April 14.
Assistant U.S. Attorney Brendan J. McKenna is prosecuting the case. The FBI and Butler Township Police are leading the ongoing investigation.
Let there be no mistake: when it comes to threats against the president of the United States, especially after an attempted assassination, this DOJ isn’t taking chances — and neither is President Trump.
