Here’s a question: How many more spies does China have lurking inside our military? Because if this case is any indication, the problem is much bigger than just these three traitors.
Kash Patel just announced the arrests of two active-duty U.S. soldiers—Jian Zhao and Li Tian—as well as former soldier Ruoyu Duan for allegedly selling sensitive U.S. military secrets to a Chinese contact.
The charges? Conspiring to commit bribery and theft of government property—a legal way of saying they were caught betraying their country and selling out our national security.
According to Patel, these men stand accused of “stealing America’s defense intelligence capabilities and empowering adversaries like China in betrayal of our country.” Sounds an awful lot like treason to me.
Here’s What We Know
- Li Tian (1st Lieutenant, health services administrator) and Jian Zhao (Sergeant, supply sergeant for the 17th Field Artillery Brigade) were both stationed at Joint Base Lewis-McChord (JBLM) in Washington.
- Ruoyu Duan served in the Army from 2013-2017 and continued working as a middleman in this operation.
- These three conspired to steal technical manuals, operational capabilities, and other classified U.S. military information and sell it to a Chinese contact.
- Zhao was reportedly paid $15,000 for his role in the scheme.
- The DOJ indictment covers activity from November 2021 to December 2024—meaning this has been happening for over three years.
Attorney General Pamela Bondi made it crystal clear:
“The defendants arrested today are accused of betraying our country, actively working to weaken America’s defense capabilities and empowering our adversaries in China. They will face swift, severe, and comprehensive justice.”
The punishment? If convicted, they face up to 15 years in federal prison.
Not Nearly Enough
Let’s be honest: 15 years isn’t enough for what they did.
Think about it—they knowingly handed over U.S. military secrets to Communist China. These aren’t just some low-level grifters stealing office supplies. They actively endangered American troops and national security.
And let’s not pretend this is an isolated case. China has been infiltrating our military, universities, and government agencies for years. How many other spies are still embedded within our armed forces right now?
It’s time to send a real message: If you betray America, the punishment should be the full force of the law.
