An eerie encounter with an unidentified drone in New Jersey has added to the growing mystery of unexplained aerial sightings that have baffled residents and authorities for weeks. The latest incident involves Michael B, a YouTuber known for his Terror Talk Productions channel, who lives near Picatinny Arsenal, a military base that has become a focal point of these bizarre events.
While flying his own drone to investigate a large, unidentified object hovering in the area, Michael B quickly lost control. “I had full battery life. Not 3 minutes into the flight, I lost control of the drone,” he told FOX 5 New York. His controller issued a warning, and his drone’s battery mysteriously died. “Drone started going down,” he recounted. Meanwhile, the unknown drone he was attempting to approach remained unaffected and continued to hover in place.
In response to the surge of drone activity, an Army spokesperson confirmed that Picatinny Arsenal has imposed a temporary flight restriction over its airspace until December 26. Since mid-November, reports of these mysterious drones have been widespread, with sightings extending into New York and Pennsylvania. The drones, some reportedly as large as SUVs, fly in coordinated formations, often at night, over residential neighborhoods, critical infrastructure, and military sites.
Federal agencies, including the FBI and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), have launched investigations but have yet to determine who is operating the drones or why. The lack of answers has left both officials and the public frustrated. Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas has tried to quell fears, suggesting a recent FAA rule change allowing nighttime drone flights could explain the increased sightings.
“There’s no question that people are seeing drones,” Mayorkas told ABC News. “We have deployed additional resources, personnel, and technology to assist the New Jersey State Police in addressing the drone sightings.” He speculated that the rule change might account for the spike in reports, adding, “I want to assure the American public that we are on it.”
However, many remain unconvinced by the explanation. Temporary flight restrictions have been imposed over sensitive locations, including President-elect Trump’s Bedminster golf course, in an attempt to secure the airspace. Meanwhile, local law enforcement is asking residents to report any sightings to help track the drone activity.
Representative Jim Himes (D-CT), the leading Democrat on the House Intelligence Committee, expressed frustration over the lack of progress. “There’s a lot of us who are pretty frustrated right now,” he said on Fox News Sunday. “‘We don’t know’ is not a good enough answer.”
As sightings persist and explanations remain scarce, residents are left wondering who—or what—is behind this mysterious surge in drone activity.
