Colorado’s Democratic Secretary of State, Jena Griswold, is having a bit of a meltdown. She’s thrown quite the hissy fit over the recent Supreme Court decision. For those who missed it, the Supreme Court unanimously ruled that no state can deny a federal candidate from appearing on the national ballot. In short, Trump’s got his ticket to run again in 2024, and boy, are the Democrats unhappy!
Griswold didn’t hold back her disappointment, tweeting out her frustration and insisting that Colorado should have the right to bar “oath-breaking insurrections” from their ballot. Now isn’t that cute? Griswold seems to think she knows better than the Supreme Court.
Here’s a reality check for you, Jena: The Supreme Court’s ruling is based on an 1869 decision that states only an act of Congress can determine whether an “insurrectionist” can be barred from holding federal office under Section III of the 14th Amendment. So your little plan to keep Trump off the ballot in Colorado? Yeah, it’s not happening.
But don’t worry, Griswold isn’t going down without a fight. She’s already pledged to keep pushing for legislation that would prevent people who incite insurrection from running for office. Bravo, Jena, bravo! But maybe next time, focus your efforts on something a little more productive?
The internet, of course, had a field day with Griswold’s tantrum. Social media users were quick to point out the hypocrisy of her statements, with one user tweeting, “So, in other words, you want to be able to choose who can and cannot run for office based on your personal beliefs. That’s not how democracy works.”
Oh, the irony! It seems like the Democrats are all for democracy, as long as it suits their agenda. But when things don’t go their way? Well, then it’s time to change the rules.
Here’s a toast to Jena Griswold and her futile attempt to bend the rules of democracy to her liking. May her efforts be as successful as her understanding of the Constitution.
