House Speaker Mike Johnson dropped a bombshell on Thursday, telling reporters that President Trump “was an FBI informant” who helped authorities pursue Jeffrey Epstein’s sex trafficking operation. His comments came in response to questions about why Trump has labeled aspects of the Epstein scandal a “hoax.”
CNN’s Manu Raju pressed Johnson on Trump’s language, pointing to recent remarks where the president called the ongoing Epstein investigation “bullsh*t.” Johnson insisted that Trump was not dismissing the abuse suffered by Epstein’s victims, but rather the way Democrats are trying to weaponize the scandal for political purposes.
“What he’s talking about is the Democrats who are doing this with impure motives,” Johnson said. “If they cared so much about this, why didn’t they do something during the four years of the Biden administration when the Biden DOJ had all the records? They didn’t say a word about it. Now they’re doing it for political purposes.”
Johnson went further, claiming that Trump acted decisively once he became aware of Epstein’s activities. “When he first heard the rumor, he kicked him out of Mar-a-Lago. He was an FBI informant to try to take this stuff down,” Johnson told reporters. “The president knows and has great sympathy for the women who have suffered these unspeakable harms. It’s detestable to him.”
The Speaker suggested that Trump could eventually meet with victims, noting his “compassionate heart” and his desire to see the truth made public.
Johnson’s comments come on the heels of a major press conference on Capitol Hill, where Epstein survivors demanded the release of all government records tied to the case. Attorney Brad Edwards, who represents several victims, added fuel to the discussion by revealing that Trump personally assisted his efforts in 2009.
“I can tell you that I talked to President Trump back in 2009 and several times after that,” Edwards said. “He helped me. He got on the phone. He told me things that were helping our investigation.”
Importantly, Edwards clarified that Trump was never a target of his investigation. Instead, Trump provided leads that assisted attorneys pursuing Epstein and his network.
Meanwhile, survivor Chauntee Davies noted that Epstein often boasted about his connections with powerful men, including Trump, but she made clear she had never witnessed Trump in Epstein’s company. Davies recounted traveling with Bill Clinton to Africa while being “manipulated” by Epstein, underscoring the political landmines surrounding the case.
Johnson closed by saying that Trump “wants all the records out” to bring closure to the victims and put an end to partisan attempts to weaponize their suffering.
