Squad Democrat Caught in DHS Crosshairs as Fraud Case Unfolds

Trump administration border czar Tom Homan lit up the conversation Monday night by revealing that he has officially requested the immigration records of Rep. Ilhan Omar. The long running allegations about her allegedly marrying her brother to help him stay in the United States have been floating around for years, gathering dust in the file cabinets of agencies that apparently had better things to do. Homan said on Newsmax that those files are finally being pulled for review. That alone is enough to make a few Washington insiders choke on their herbal tea.

President Trump had already stirred the pot last week when he referred to the allegation as fraud while speaking with reporters in the Oval Office. Naturally, that set off another round of media pearl clutching, but the controversy never really went away. It just sat there, five years old, stubbornly refusing to be debunked and making Democrats very uncomfortable.

During the interview on Newsmax, Eric Schmitt asked Homan whether an investigation existed, pointing out that if the allegation were true, it would be a deportable offense. Homan did not dodge the question. He said he had recently been briefed by a fraud investigator and asked the very basic question that somehow never seemed to get a straight answer in the past, who reviewed the file. He noted that when the allegations first surfaced, the statute of limitations became an issue and asked the obvious follow up. When this was first brought up, who was president, who ran DOJ. A polite way of saying the previous administration was not exactly eager to look under that particular rock.

Homan explained that records and files are now being reviewed again. He said an investigator he knows personally at Homeland Security Investigations had already examined the matter and concluded that immigration fraud occurred. According to Homan, this investigator is one of the best in HSI and had no hesitation in his assessment. Homan said he is pursuing the issue this week and will see where it leads. That is a refreshing contrast to the years of bureaucratic shrugging.

Omar appeared Sunday on Face the Nation, but the interview politely sidestepped the immigration claims. No surprise there. The allegations originally surfaced during her early political rise and were reported in detail by the Daily Mail in 2020. Omar has consistently denied any wrongdoing, but denial is not the same as a legal resolution.

Now that the records are being pulled, we might finally see whether the long whispered claims hold up under fresh scrutiny.
