Top Canadian Politician Threatens US with ‘Pain Like They’ve Never Felt Before’ in Trump Tariff Tantrum

Oh, look—another politician grandstanding about how they’re going to “fight back” against President Trump. This time, it’s Ontario Premier Doug Ford, who seems to think he can threaten the United States over Trump’s plan to impose a very necessary 25% tariff on Canadian exports.

Ford, in a recent NBC News interview, huffed and puffed about how America supposedly doesn’t want tariffs—despite the fact that a majority of Americans voted for Trump, who made it very clear that tariffs are part of his America First agenda. Maybe Ford should check the polling before making such a ridiculous claim.

But the best part? Ford’s big threat: He’s going to “shut down the electricity” flowing to the U.S. if Trump follows through. Oh no, not our precious Canadian electricity! What ever shall we do? It’s funny how these guys love to talk tough until they remember that trade goes both ways. The U.S. doesn’t need Canada’s energy—it allows Canadian companies to sell here. If Ford really wants to play hardball, he might want to consider what happens when the U.S. stops exporting crucial goods to Canada. Spoiler alert: It wouldn’t end well for them.

Ford also went on some bizarre rant about bourbon, warning Kentucky and Mitch McConnell not to mess with Canada. Does he really think that threatening bourbon is going to make Trump back down? If anything, it just proves how unserious these threats are. Trump has dealt with dictators, bureaucrats, and career politicians his entire life—he’s not going to be intimidated by a guy from Ontario throwing a fit over tariffs.

And then, as if things couldn’t get more ridiculous, Ford brought up his brilliant idea from January: buying Alaska and Minnesota. Oh sure, Doug, let’s just sell you a massive, resource-rich state and throw in Minnesota for good measure. Maybe next he’ll offer to buy Texas while he’s at it.

At the end of the day, Ford’s threats are as empty as Biden’s promises. Canada needs U.S. trade far more than the U.S. needs Canada’s exports, and everyone knows it. Trump’s tariffs are about putting American workers first, and no amount of whining from Ontario’s premier is going to change that. If Ford wants to play tough, he should be prepared for a reality check—because Trump isn’t backing down.
