ABC News just gave Americans another prime example of why legacy media is falling apart in real time. During a Sunday interview that started with the usual Middle East talking points, George Stephanopoulos abruptly cut off Vice President JD Vance mid-answer, all because Vance wouldn’t play along with a left-wing smear campaign against White House border czar Tom Homan.
The fireworks started when Stephanopoulos, clearly eager to please his ProPublica fanbase, brought up a questionable story claiming Homan had been caught on tape accepting a $50,000 “bribe.” What he left out, of course, is that the Justice Department itself didn’t find a crime. In fact, veteran reporter Julie Kelly revealed that the Biden DOJ’s Public Integrity Unit set up a sting before Homan was even back in government, targeting him based on the Trump campaign’s plan to include him in a future administration. It was a political hit job, not a criminal investigation.
And what was this supposed “bribe”? A discussion about third-party contractor work for potential deportation operations if Trump returned to office — a completely standard conversation for someone prepping for government service. But ProPublica twisted it into a bombshell, and Stephanopoulos ran with it like it was Watergate 2.0.
When Vance rightly called it a “ridiculous smear” and pointed out that no bribery occurred, Stephanopoulos kept badgering him. “Did he accept the $50,000?” he asked, trying to force a soundbite. Vance, staying calm, responded the way any honest person would: “He did not take a bribe.” And then clarified again that accepting money isn’t illegal unless it’s tied to an illegal act, something the DOJ admitted it couldn’t prove.
But Stephanopoulos wasn’t looking for facts. He was fishing for a scandal. When Vance pointed out that Americans are tuning out of networks like ABC because of this exact kind of nonsense, Stephanopoulos got visibly irritated and abruptly ended the interview, cutting off the Vice President mid-sentence.
All of this comes just months after ABC News had to fork over $15 million and issue a formal apology to President Trump for pushing the outright lie that he was found guilty of r*pe, a claim that never happened, not in any court. And yet, Stephanopoulos has the nerve to whine about credibility?
The bottom line is this: ABC News is in meltdown mode, and George Stephanopoulos is doing his best impression of a DNC press secretary. JD Vance came in with facts, composure, and truth, and got cut off for it. That says it all.
