The swamp just got a little shallower, and not a moment too soon.
On Friday, the Trump administration made a bold move that has already sent the left into hysterics: they completely eliminated the Community Financial Institutions Fund (CDFI), an obscure but bloated federal agency under the Treasury Department that had quietly become a cash cow for woke nonsense. All 102 employees were handed layoff notices, effectively shutting the whole thing down. That’s how you drain a swamp, with a pink slip and a hard dose of reality.
Originally set up in 1994 with the goal of helping underserved communities access financial services, the CDFI Fund had drifted so far off course that it was unrecognizable. Under the guise of “community development,” it started throwing taxpayer dollars at radical left-wing causes. We’re talking millions to groups pushing gender ideology, race-based programming, and even a transgender fashion show. Yes, really.
According to the Daily Caller, one CDFI grant recipient, the Local Initiatives Support Corporation, published material bashing “whiteness” in the context of urban development. Another, the Clearinghouse CDFI, proudly funded LGBTQ clinics offering hormone treatments “of any age.” This wasn’t economic opportunity. This was cultural Marxism with a Treasury stamp on it.
President Trump had already laid the groundwork for this in March, signing an executive order directing agencies to stick to their legally mandated roles. Any program pushing political agendas or operating without proper funding authority was put on notice. And with the government shutdown still dragging on, thanks to Chuck Schumer and the Democrats refusing to negotiate unless they get taxpayer-funded healthcare for illegal aliens, the Trump White House finally pulled the trigger.
Russ Vought, Trump’s budget director, said it best on X: “The RIFs have begun.” Reduction-in-force plans are being rolled out across the government, and the CDFI Fund is just the beginning.
Of course, the left is melting down. Maxine Waters practically needed a fainting couch. In a dramatic press release, she accused Trump of trying to destroy “bipartisan progress” and using the shutdown to “advance the radical Project 2025 agenda.” Funny, she didn’t mention the $6.7 million her precious agency spent promoting transgenderism. Or the fact that the Constitution gives Congress the power to fund, not mandate, pet projects with zero accountability.
Bottom line: the Trump administration is showing what real leadership looks like. It’s not just talk. It’s action. And if cutting woke bureaucrats out of the budget is “radical,” then maybe we need a lot more of it.
