Trump Strikes Surprise Deal with China – But One Detail Raises Red Flags

President Trump dropped a bombshell announcement Wednesday morning, revealing a major trade agreement with China that’s already setting off alarm bells—even among some of his staunchest MAGA supporters.

In a post on Truth Social, Trump declared that the United States had reached a new deal with Chinese dictator Xi Jinping that includes guaranteed access to critical rare earth metals and magnets—resources that are absolutely vital to everything from military tech to smartphones to electric vehicles. Considering China controls around 60% of global rare earth production and nearly 90% of the world’s processing capacity, this is no small victory. If China ever decided to slam the door on exports, it could cripple U.S. manufacturing and national defense capabilities.

So yes, this part of the deal? Smart. Necessary. Even brilliant.

But—and here comes the controversy—Trump also confirmed that as part of the deal, Chinese students would continue to attend American universities, despite a long history of espionage, intellectual property theft, and biological security concerns associated with certain students entering the country from the CCP-controlled nation.

“Full magnets, and any necessary rare earths, will be supplied, up front, by China,” Trump wrote. He went on to note that the U.S. is getting a 55% tariff rate on Chinese goods, while China will only impose a 10% rate on American exports.

From a numbers perspective, this looks like a strong win. Lower Chinese tariffs on U.S. goods, higher tariffs on Chinese products entering the U.S., and a critical supply chain secured. But that one sentence buried in the Truth Social post has people talking: “Chinese students using our colleges and universities (which has always been good with me!).”

Let’s be clear: this is the same Chinese Communist Party that has routinely used its students abroad as pawns in their geopolitical chess game. Whether it’s stealing research data, infiltrating sensitive academic programs, or even allegedly smuggling pathogens, this isn’t just paranoia—it’s happened.

Now, to Trump’s credit, he slapped China with countermeasures when they broke the previous Geneva agreement, including revoking visas from those very students. That move was celebrated by many America First conservatives who have watched our institutions be hollowed out by CCP influence for decades.

So, letting them back in? That’s a hard pill to swallow.

Hopefully, this administration has a strict vetting process in place. Because while many Chinese students do come to genuinely learn, others are here to undermine everything we stand for. And we’d be foolish to pretend otherwise.
