Hollywood grandstander George Clooney has officially decided America is not good enough for his family anymore. Clooney, his wife Amal Clooney, and their two children have now obtained French citizenship and are living full time in France, far away from the country he never stops lecturing.
The Clooneys have reportedly been living on a farm in southern France with their eight year old twins, Ella and Alexander. Clooney told interviewers that the French countryside offers his children a “much better life” than Los Angeles, because they are not glued to iPads and have to do things like eat dinner with adults and carry dishes to the sink. Apparently basic parenting is only achievable once you leave the United States.
Clooney also admitted he was worried about raising his kids in Hollywood culture, saying they would “never get a fair shake at life” in Los Angeles. That is rich coming from a man who made hundreds of millions of dollars off that exact culture and then spent decades preaching to ordinary Americans about how privileged they are.
According to reporting, France is not Clooney’s only escape hatch. He also owns an estate in England, a villa on Lake Como in Italy, and property near his family in Kentucky. So while he talks about simplicity and normal life, he remains one of the most globe hopping elites on the planet. Nothing screams humble farm life like four luxury properties across three countries.
Clooney also praised France for not caring about fame, saying people there “don’t give a s—” about celebrities. That may be true, but it is a strange choice given France’s ongoing struggles with crime and immigration, problems Clooney routinely downplayed or outright dismissed when similar issues plagued American cities.
President Trump, never one to let hypocrisy slide, responded on Truth Social with characteristic bluntness. He mocked the Clooneys’ move, noting that France is dealing with major crime issues thanks to the same soft on immigration policies Clooney supported in the United States. Trump also took aim at Clooney’s track record in politics, reminding people that Clooney dumped Joe Biden after a disastrous debate and then backed Kamala Harris, another political misfire.
BBC reporting confirmed the Clooneys’ new citizenship through France’s official government journal. Their primary residence is now a farm in Brignoles, purchased in 2021. Local officials praised Clooney as simple and accessible, which is a polite way of saying he keeps a low profile when not lecturing Americans.
There is nothing illegal or wrong about moving abroad. But Americans are right to notice the pattern. Celebrities make their money here, scold voters for decades, help push policies that destabilize cities, then quietly leave when things get uncomfortable. George Clooney did not just move to France. He confirmed what millions already suspected. The rules he champions are for everyone else.
