A nasty and totally unsubstantiated rumor has been circulating that former ICE Director Tom Homan accepted a $50,000 bribe. There is zero public evidence that this ever happened. To the best of anyone’s knowledge, the claim is nothing more than hearsay that was pushed by hostile media and political enemies. It has already been debunked and yet the corporate press keeps trying to breathe life back into it.
The rumor resurfaced when ABC’s George Stephanopoulos tried to press Vice President J.D. Vance on the accusation during a live interview. Vance immediately shut it down and reminded Stephanopoulos that this is exactly why fewer and fewer Americans trust outlets like ABC. He blasted Stephanopoulos for wasting time on fake gossip instead of discussing the shutdown, food shortages for women and children, and real policy issues.
That might have been embarrassing enough for ABC, but what happened next made it worse. ABC abruptly cut the interview off and went to commercial once Vance got the upper hand and exposed the fake narrative for what it was. Viewers erupted online accusing the network of censoring the truth instead of correcting the record.
Then the issue came up again, this time when Bill O’Reilly had Tom Homan on a panel at NewsNation. O’Reilly asked Homan if he wanted to address the rumor directly. Homan looked him in the eye and said, “I did not take $50,000 from anybody.” He then explained that on day one he recused himself from any financial or contracting decisions because he previously owned a consulting company and did not want even the appearance of a conflict. He volunteered that he actually took a significant pay cut to return to public service.
When asked if the smear campaign angers him, Homan said he does not care what critics think because he knows who he is and he is working for what he called the greatest president in United States history. The audience applauded.
This rumor has been debunked, rejected, and refuted. It exists only because the media refuses to let go of anything that might harm those aligned with President Trump. Fake news lives off recycled lies and character assassination. Americans are exhausted with it.
