Well, it happened again. Former Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell took another tumble, this time in the basement of the Russell Senate Office Building. The man is 83, has battled polio, and frankly, shouldn’t be navigating Capitol Hill hallways without a mobility scooter and some bumpers on the walls. But of course, he’s still out there, still standing (barely), and still waving to cameras like nothing happened. That’s Mitch for you.
According to footage of the incident, McConnell was being assisted by an aide, who had hold of his wrist, standard procedure these days given his long-standing mobility issues stemming from childhood polio. Then, in walks a left-wing activist from the Sunrise Movement, one of those climate change crusaders with way too much time and absolutely zero respect. She thought it’d be a brilliant time to confront the senator about ICE and their so-called “kidnapping” of illegal aliens. Because apparently, ambushing an 83-year-old man with physical disabilities while he’s trying to get from point A to B is what passes for “activism” in 2025.
As the protester launched into her scripted tirade, McConnell let go of the aide and tried to walk on his own. Big mistake. He took a couple of steps, then hit the ground, hard. Fortunately, he managed to brace himself on his knees, which probably saved him from a broken hip or worse. Capitol Police and his aide were quick to help him back up, and in typical Mitch McConnell fashion, he brushed it off with a smirk and a wave, like it was just another Tuesday.
Let’s be real here. McConnell’s been falling more than Biden in a sandstorm. A fractured shoulder in 2019, a concussion and broken ribs in 2023, a fall in Finland, and now this. At this point, the guy’s had more hospital visits than Bernie’s had campaign slogans.
He’s not seeking re-election in 2026 and already stepped down as Senate GOP leader. And honestly, it’s time. The man’s been in the Senate since Reagan was president. He did his job, played political chess better than most, and held the line when it mattered, particularly when it came to the Supreme Court.
So while the left is busy dunking on an old man for falling, maybe they should take a second to appreciate that the reason they’re not stacking the Court with radicals is because McConnell knew how to play the long game. Let them mock. History will remember him for reshaping the judiciary.
