Well, Nancy Pelosi finally snapped, and this time, it wasn’t at a Republican colleague across the aisle but at a conservative reporter just doing her job. On the steps of the Capitol Wednesday, the former Speaker of the House lost her cool when asked a basic, legitimate question about her role in the security failures of January 6, 2021. You’d think after years of dishing out partisan blame toward President Trump, she’d be ready to face a little scrutiny of her own. Apparently not.
The incident came as House Republicans reopen the January 6 investigation, this time with an actual interest in the full story, not just the selective narrative pushed by Pelosi’s original committee. Let’s not forget, it was Pelosi who stacked that committee with Democrat loyalists and a couple of Never-Trump Republicans, Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger, to give it a thin veneer of bipartisanship. That charade has fallen apart, and now the spotlight is swinging back in her direction.
The reporter, Alison Steinberg, works for a network owned by none other than Mike Lindell, which is enough to send most Democrats into a fit of pearl-clutching. But her question was pretty straightforward: “Are you worried that the new January 6th committee will find you liable for that day?” That’s when Pelosi’s security team tried to shut it down, but Steinberg pushed again: “Why did you refuse the National Guard on January 6th?”
Pelosi lost it. “Shut up!” she barked, pointing in Steinberg’s face. “I didn’t refuse the National Guard, the president didn’t send it. Why are you coming here with Republican talking points as if you’re a serious journalist?”
Here’s the problem for Pelosi: there’s video. In the video footage from her daughter Alexandra Pelosi’s documentary, Nancy herself says the words, “I take responsibility.” That admission, revealed by House Administration Subcommittee Chairman Barry Loudermilk, points to what many Republicans have said all along. She was in charge of Capitol security. She had intel. She had options. And she didn’t act.
Pelosi wants all the credit when things go right, but none of the blame when they go horribly wrong. The new investigation is finally starting to ask the questions the original committee ignored. Maybe this time, the American people will get the full truth, not just Pelosi’s version of it.
