“What Is She Doing Here?” – Senile Senator Forgets Who Kamala Harris Was

Going into this story, I bet you already know who I’m probably talking about. While there are several old members of Congress, there are a few that I could actually be talking about. One of the names you may be thinking of is John Fetterman. While he is a very likely candidate, it’s not him. I’m talking about the nearly 90 year old Senator Dianne Feinstein.

As per a report in NY Times, it has been stated that due to Dianne Feinstein’s cognitive decline, she got extremely confused about Kamala Harris presiding over the Senate during a session last year. Witnesses of the incident said that Feinstein asked, “What is she doing here?” while referring to Harris’ role in the Senate.

The Hill reported,

The Harris example reportedly took place last year and illustrates the difficulty Feinstein has had recalling, at times, the basics of how the Senate operates. According to the new report, Feinstein expressed confusion to her colleagues when she saw Harris presiding over the chamber, in one of many tiebreaking votes the vice president has had to cast.

It is unclear whether Feinstein forgot the Senate rules or that Kamala Harris is the Vice President. However, it is concerning that Democrats kept her mental decline hidden for months. Earlier this year, Feinstein returned to the Senate after being away for months and had to be reminded of her duties.

Several Democrats have been calling for her to step down immediately, including AOC who said,

“[Dianne Feinstein] should retire. I think criticisms of that stance as ‘anti-feminist’ are a farce. Her refusal to either retire or show up is causing great harm to the judiciary – precisely where reproduction rights are getting stripped. That failure means now in this precious window Dems can only pass GOP-approved nominees.”

Feinstein stated in February that she will not run for reelection in 2024, but she plans to finish her current term.
