Endorsements during the election cycles are a very important factor when it comes to electability and actually standing a chance against an opponent nowadays. President Trump seems to be securing them left and right though, and just received another major endorsement form a mega donor.
Bernie Marcus, co-founder of Home Depot and the Job Creators Network, has publicly thrown his support behind former President Donald Trump for the 2024 bid. Marcus, who has stated that he is “saddened by what I see happening to America,” shared his endorsement on Real Clear Politics.
Marcus voiced his concerns about the state of America today, citing issues ranging from rising crime rates to problems at the Southern border to rampant homelessness. Drawing upon his personal journey of building Home Depot following a difficult job loss, he expressed fear that the American Dream he lived might not be available for future generations.
“The state of America today, especially record inflation, government over-regulation, and the problems of the last three years, would prevent my partners and I from succeeding as we have,” Marcus said.
His endorsement of Trump is rooted in a belief that the former president will secure the 2024 nomination. Despite acknowledging his occasional frustration with Trump’s brash style, Marcus emphasized that this should not overshadow Trump’s “otherwise excellent stewardship of the United States during his first term in office”.
Marcus praised Trump’s foreign policy achievements, suggesting they would be particularly beneficial amid the ongoing conflict in Israel and the war in Ukraine. He stated, “This will require a president with the judgment, strength, decisiveness, and courage that Donald Trump displayed in his first term”.
Marcus strongly believes that under Trump’s leadership, America’s enemies respected and feared the nation. He suggested that if Trump were still president, the current attacks on Israel might not have occurred.
The endorsement by Marcus, a significant figure in the business community, offers a valuable boost to Trump’s potential 2024 campaign. It not only signals high-level support for the former president within the business world but also underscores the ongoing influence Trump holds within the Republican Party.
