Four States Decide to Have Only Joe Biden on the Primary Ballot

Oh boy, it seems the Democratic Party’s motto of “For the People” has taken a bit of a detour. Four states—Florida, Tennessee, North Carolina, and Massachusetts—have decided that when it comes to the Democratic primaries, it’s Joe Biden or bust. Talk about putting all your eggs in one basket!

The decision to crown Biden as the Democratic nominee in these states without even a hint of primary contestation is raising more than a few eyebrows. It’s not just the Republican side of the aisle that’s baffled either. Some within the Democratic Party are crying foul too, alleging disenfranchisement and questioning the democratic process within their own party.

The Florida Democratic Executive Committee announced that the only name gracing the ballot for the upcoming primary elections will be Joe Biden. Tennessee and North Carolina have followed suit, with North Carolina generously offering “No Preference” as an alternative option. How very magnanimous of them.

Meanwhile, in Massachusetts, Biden is once again the belle of the ball. The state’s Democratic Party has also chosen to submit only Joe Biden’s name for the state’s Super Tuesday presidential primary ballot. Author and fellow Democrat Marianne Williamson didn’t take too kindly to this news. She accused the Massachusetts Democratic Party of a “flagrant violation of DNC rules and process.” Ouch!

Even “The Young Turks” host Cenk Uygur, who is vying for the Democratic presidential nomination himself, has criticized the exclusions. He called on the Democratic Party to allow a fair and inclusive primary process. In his words, “They are robbing them of their voice. They’re saying the democracy is not important, that you should not participate in the process.” Well, when you put it like that…

Now, let’s be clear here. This isn’t just about the Florida Democratic Party. It’s about the principle of the thing. It’s about giving voters a choice and respecting the democratic process. Even if you’re a diehard Biden fan, you’ve got to admit, this doesn’t look good.

So, what’s next? Will more states follow suit and declare Biden their one and only choice? Or will the backlash force them to reconsider their decision? Only time will tell, folks. But one thing’s for sure: this is one primary season that’s shaping up to be anything but boring.
