Well, well, well—what do we have here? It looks like the “blue wall” that Democrats love to brag about isn’t as solid as they’d hoped. A new blockbuster poll out of Virginia is sounding alarm bells in Kamala Harris’s camp—and for good reason. According to the University of Mary Washington poll, Harris is only ahead of Donald Trump by 2% in a head-to-head matchup in Virginia. Yes, you read that right…Virginia, the state that Democrats have treated like their personal backyard, with its deep-blue suburbs and progressive elites in Loudoun County, is now in play.
Let’s be clear, this is a state that Biden won by ten points in 2020. And now Trump is nipping at Harris’s heels, sitting well within the poll’s margin of error. In a multi-way race (because you know we can’t have an election these days without some third-party shenanigans), that 2% lead drops to just 1%. That’s basically a coin flip, folks. So much for that so-called “firewall.”
The Democrats have a serious problem on their hands. They’ve spent years taking Virginia for granted, assuming that suburban voters would keep bailing them out. But the tides are shifting, and Trump is capitalizing. Not only has he been able to energize his base, but he’s picking up independents—yes, the people who Dems have tried so hard to woo with their “we’re not Trump” mantra. Guess what? It’s not working anymore.
And don’t even get me started on the assassination attempt. Trump just survived a SECOND assassination attempt. Meanwhile, Democrats are scrambling, trying to condemn the violence while sticking to their tired narrative that Trump is the real “threat to democracy.” All this while one of their own donors was linked to the attack! Nice messaging, guys. It’s no wonder Harris is losing ground.
Now, while Trump is closing in, Kamala is seeing her own numbers take a nosedive. A Gallup poll showed her favorability dropping by 5%—ouch. And with independents? She’s lost a staggering 25%. That’s the ballgame, folks. If you can’t win over the independents, you might as well pack it up.
Harris is floundering, and Trump is surging. Virginia might just turn red in 2024, and if that happens, the Democrats will have to kiss their electoral strategy goodbye. The map is expanding, and Trump is marching forward.
