Well, it’s about time someone in Washington decided to get serious about public safety and the total disaster that is illegal immigration. On Thursday, in a press conference held in Gary, Indiana, Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem announced the arrest of 223 illegal immigrants, 146 of whom were driving semi-trucks without proper licensing or legal status. This wasn’t just some random traffic sweep either. It was part of Operation Midway Blitz, the Trump Administration’s official effort to crack down on illegal alien commercial drivers in the greater Chicago region.
Now, if the phrase “illegal immigrants behind the wheel of 80,000-pound big rigs” doesn’t make your hair stand up, you haven’t been paying attention. These aren’t just minor technical violations. These people are hauling freight across the country without legal authorization, often without understanding English, American road laws, or how to respond to a traffic stop. In some cases, they even failed CDL tests repeatedly before somehow getting licensed.
Take Harjinder Singh, for example. He crossed the southern border illegally in 2018, failed his commercial driver’s license test at least 10 times, and still managed to get one in California. He’s now accused of causing a crash in Fort Pierce, Florida that killed several people. According to police body cam footage, he couldn’t even communicate with the responding officers. That’s not just a red flag, it’s a neon billboard flashing “system failure.”
Then there’s Jashanpreet Singh, involved in another deadly crash in California. He was issued a CDL on June 27. Despite a Department of Transportation audit on September 26 that flagged major compliance failures in California’s licensing process, officials actually upgraded his license on October 15. It’s negligence, plain and simple.
Secretary Noem didn’t hold back. She called out sanctuary states like California, Illinois, and New York for issuing CDLs to individuals with criminal records that include DUI, rape, drug trafficking, and domestic violence. These states are prioritizing politics over safety, and American citizens are the ones paying the price.
ICE Director Todd Lyons called it “unconscionable” that illegal aliens are operating 18-wheelers across the country. Indiana State Police Secretary Anthony Scott echoed that, warning that untrained drivers piloting massive vehicles filled with freight is a recipe for disaster.
This isn’t just about immigration policy. It’s about protecting the people who live, drive, and work in this country. Noem said it best — if you’re here illegally and driving on our roads, your days are numbered. It’s about time someone took the wheel.
