Joe Rogan has spent years interviewing fighters, comedians, politicians, scientists, and just about every other personality imaginable. But even by Rogan’s standards, President Trump’s response to security concerns surrounding the UFC’s historic White House event may rank among the most memorable moments he has shared.
During a recent podcast conversation with newly crowned UFC lightweight champion Justin Gaethje and legendary coach Trevor Wittman, Rogan recalled a humorous exchange he had with President Trump before the highly anticipated UFC Freedom 250 event on June 14.
The White House card was already being described as one of the most unique sporting events ever staged. Hosting a UFC event on White House grounds brought together elite fighters, celebrities, political figures, and thousands of fans. Naturally, security concerns were a major topic of discussion leading up to the event.
Wittman admitted that the unusual setting left him uneasy before the fights began.
“I was honestly really nervous, Joe,” Wittman said. “I was like, ‘Dude, there’s like, just again, being around everybody and something could happen.’”
Considering the profile of the event, it was not an unreasonable concern. Large outdoor gatherings involving high-profile government officials require extensive security planning, and the White House card was no exception.
Gaethje, however, approached the issue with the kind of mindset fans have come to expect from a fighter who makes a living stepping into a cage and exchanging punches with the most dangerous athletes on the planet.
“I was like, ‘F**k it. If I get taken out in the middle of the cage, how fu**ing legendary would that be,’” Gaethje joked.
“Everyone will remember it for the rest of eternity.”
The comment drew laughs, but Rogan responded with an even better story.
According to Rogan, he brought up similar concerns directly with President Trump before the event.
“I said to Trump, I go, ‘I hope we don’t die in a terrorist attack,’” Rogan recounted.
President Trump’s response was classic Trump.
“We’ve all gotta go somehow.”
The remark perfectly captured the president’s well-known ability to respond to tense situations with humor and confidence. Whether supporters love him or critics dislike him, moments like this help explain why he remains one of the most recognizable public figures in modern politics.
What makes the story even more remarkable is what happened afterward.
Federal authorities later revealed that an alleged terror plot targeting the UFC Freedom 250 event had been disrupted before it could be carried out. According to the Department of Justice, five men were arrested and charged in connection with an alleged plan involving explosive-equipped drones and sniper attacks aimed at government officials and attendees.
The FBI reportedly became aware of the threat several days before the event and launched a multi-state operation that ultimately prevented the alleged attack from taking place.
Fortunately, the event proceeded safely and delivered a memorable night of fights. Gaethje’s victory over previously undefeated knockout artist Ilia Topuria secured the undisputed lightweight championship and capped off what many participants described as one of the greatest cards in UFC history.
For Rogan, the event will likely be remembered not only for the action inside the cage but also for a brief exchange with President Trump that managed to turn a serious concern into a moment of unforgettable humor.
