Barack Obama Furious About Trump’s Iran Deal

Former President Barack Obama is once again weighing in on U.S. policy toward Iran, and this time he is taking aim at President Trump just as a new agreement with Tehran is reportedly set to be finalized.

During an interview with ABC News anchor Robin Roberts, Obama criticized President Trump’s handling of negotiations with Iran and questioned whether the administration’s new agreement would produce results substantially different from the controversial nuclear deal reached during his own presidency.

The full interview is scheduled to air Wednesday on Good Morning America, but excerpts released ahead of time have already generated significant discussion.

Roberts asked Obama about the ongoing situation involving Iran and whether he believed the current administration was handling the issue effectively.

“You spent a lot of time wrestling with a nuclear Iran. How do you think things are being handled right now?” Roberts asked.

Obama responded by defending the framework of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, commonly known as the JCPOA, the agreement reached between Iran and several world powers during his administration.

“It is doubtful that any agreement that arises is going to be significantly different or a significant improvement from the deal that we had in the first place, and had worked for a long stretch of time before we, the United States pulled out,” Obama said.

He also expressed concern about the ongoing military conflict in the region.

“I’m hopeful that the bombing stops and ordinary people are no longer suffering as a consequence of the war,” Obama added.

The comments came just hours before President Trump announced that a new agreement with Iran would be signed on Sunday.

President Trump has repeatedly argued that the Obama-era deal was fundamentally flawed and provided Iran with a pathway toward obtaining a nuclear weapon rather than preventing one.

In a lengthy Truth Social post, President Trump sharply criticized the JCPOA, calling it “an easy, beautiful, smooth road to a Nuclear Weapon.”

“Barack Hussein Obama’s Deal with Iran, the JCPOA, was an easy, beautiful, smooth road to a Nuclear Weapon, which Iran would have had six years ago, and would have used long before now,” President Trump wrote.

By contrast, President Trump described his new agreement as a complete reversal of the previous approach.

“My Agreement with Iran is the exact opposite, A WALL TO NO NUCLEAR WEAPON!” he stated.

President Trump also highlighted another key distinction between the two agreements. According to the president, the new deal will not involve any direct financial payments to Iran.

“Unlike Obama’s Hundreds of Billions of Dollars in payments to them, including 1.7 Billion Dollars in green, cold cash, no money will exchange hands,” President Trump wrote.

The exchange between the two presidents underscores a long-running debate over how best to confront Iran’s nuclear ambitions. Obama continues to defend the agreement negotiated during his administration, while President Trump argues that only maximum pressure and tougher terms can permanently prevent Tehran from acquiring nuclear weapons.

With the new deal reportedly set to be signed, the political battle over Iran policy appears far from over. If anything, Obama’s latest remarks and President Trump’s forceful response demonstrate that the debate remains just as intense as it was when the United States first withdrew from the JCPOA years ago.
