A wealthy Marxist financier who has spent years bankrolling left-wing causes is now facing serious scrutiny from the federal government. The Department of Justice has reportedly launched a grand jury investigation into Neville Roy Singham, a technology entrepreneur whose money has flowed through a vast network of activist organizations, nonprofit groups, and media outlets tied to progressive political causes.
According to reports, federal prosecutors in the Southern District of New York are examining whether Singham or organizations connected to his funding network violated laws involving wire fraud, bank fraud, money laundering, or other financial crimes. The investigation was reportedly authorized by Acting Attorney General Todd Blanche and is being overseen by U.S. Attorney Jay Clayton.
Singham made his fortune after selling the software company ThoughtWorks and has since become a major financial backer of left-wing activism. Reports indicate that approximately $285 million moved through the Goldman Sachs donor-advised philanthropy fund and various shell companies before being distributed to activist groups, nonprofits, and media organizations promoting socialist and Marxist causes. Prosecutors are now investigating whether any laws were broken during those transactions.
Among the organizations reportedly linked to Singham’s network are The People’s Forum, ANSWER Coalition, BreakThrough News, and CODEPINK. Congressional Republicans have previously raised concerns about alleged ties between some of these groups and entities connected to the Chinese Communist Party, though the organizations have denied wrongdoing.
Importantly, no criminal charges have been filed, and the investigation remains in its evidence-gathering stage. Grand jury subpoenas are a routine part of federal investigations and do not automatically mean indictments are coming. Still, the scope of the reported probe is significant, particularly given the amount of money involved and the political influence of the organizations receiving funding.
The story also raises larger questions about transparency in nonprofit political advocacy. For years, Americans have watched massive sums of money move through tax-exempt organizations with limited public scrutiny. When those funds are tied to highly political activism, voters have every reason to expect accountability and disclosure.
Republican lawmakers argue that this investigation is long overdue. Representative Jason Smith stated, “For years, Roy Singham has abused the generous tax status awarded to tax exempt organizations to fund left wing chaos and violence in our country.” Whether prosecutors ultimately agree remains to be seen, but the federal investigation ensures that questions surrounding Singham’s funding network are no longer being ignored.
