Questions continue to surround a death investigation at a rental property owned by the husband of Representative Ayanna Pressley, after Boston police responded to a call Saturday morning and discovered a deceased individual inside the home. While there are still far more questions than answers, the incident has already drawn public attention because of the property’s connection to the Massachusetts congresswoman and the limited information released by investigators.
According to Boston police, officers responded to what was described as an “investigate person” call at a residence in the city’s Mattapan neighborhood. Upon arrival, officers found an individual dead inside the home.
Boston Police Department spokesperson James Moccia confirmed the discovery, stating, “When they arrived, they found the person deceased.” He also said the department’s homicide unit is handling the investigation. That does not automatically mean investigators have determined a homicide occurred. In many jurisdictions, homicide detectives routinely investigate unattended or suspicious deaths until the facts are fully established.
As of Saturday evening, authorities had not released the identity of the deceased, a cause of death, or any additional details explaining the circumstances surrounding the discovery. Officials also have not confirmed whether there is any indication of foul play. For now, the investigation remains active, and law enforcement has been careful not to speculate before evidence is gathered.
The property itself has become part of the story because it is owned by Conan Harris, the husband of Representative Ayanna Pressley. City property records identify Harris as the owner of the two story, seven bedroom home, which was built in 1910. The residence has an assessed value of more than $919,000 and had recently been listed for sale with an asking price of $1.15 million after serving as a rental property for years.
A spokesperson for Representative Pressley’s office offered condolences following the incident, saying, “The congresswoman extends her deepest condolences to the impacted family.” The office also emphasized that the residence is a rental property.
Television footage from the scene showed red crime scene tape surrounding portions of the property, including its blue exterior and white picket fence. A “for sale” sign remained in front of the home while realtor Chantae Turner, who listed the property, described the situation by saying it “sounds unfortunate, though.”
Adding another layer to the day’s events, Conan Harris had attended a renaming ceremony at the Shaw-Roxbury Branch Library earlier that morning. According to the Boston Globe, he spoke on behalf of Representative Pressley before police later responded to the Malta Street address.
Neighbors also recalled previous police activity at the residence. One resident told the Boston Globe there had been a police raid at the property approximately two months before it was placed on the market. At that time, tenants reportedly occupied each floor of the home, including several high school-aged individuals.
For now, the facts remain limited. Investigators have not publicly explained what led officers to the residence, how the individual died, or whether the death is connected to any criminal activity. Until those questions are answered, the case remains an active investigation, and officials have released little beyond confirming the discovery and extending condolences to the family affected by the tragedy.
